The relatively low refraction index of porous glasses unfavourably affects applications where optical properties play an important role, e.g. in composite formulations. VitraBio has made a major achievement increasing the refraction index of the specialty TRISOPOR® micro by introducing carefully selected changes of the composition of the starting material. Other important parameters are unaffected by this modification.
TRISOPOR® micro is a resin-trapping and matrix-integrating filler. This capacity significantly helps improve the properties of dental fillings developed as an alternative to amalgam. The finely divided porous material is a unique offering and already successfully being used in high-performance formulations of composites. Thus, for the first time, a glass-based porous micro-granular material is available that will ameliorate condensability and dilatancy of composites for the restoration of posterior teeth.
