The production of controlled pore glass in Germany begins nearly twenty years ago.

VEB Trisola, Steinach, starts small scale production of controlled pore glass for use in affinity chromatography and as carrier for catalysts.

A merger with Schuller GmbH / Wertheim completely changes the focus of the business being part of Johns Manville Corp./Denver, a major player in construction materials. Production is modernized and applications for the dental industry and life sciences are being developed.

The new facilities start operation with a capacity of 2000 kg/year of the high-tech product designed mainly for use of controlled pore glass in the dental industry.

Johns Manville Headquarters decide to focus on the core business, and step out of the controlled pore glass production.

April 1st, Ms. M. Herrmann, the former Manager of the Controlled Pore Gkass Devision, and her team acquire the business and all assets and reestablish the company under the name VitraBio GmbH.
